Liv Opdal is a group leader in the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and associate professor of cello at the University of Stavanger, Faculty of Performing Arts.

She is educated at the Norwegian Academy of Music.

As a performer, she shows above all versatility. Her interests range from baroque music to contemporary music.

Liv Opdal is an active chamber musician and has been a festival musician at the Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival for several years. She also plays baroque cello and is a member of Stavanger Baroque.

In 1998, she, together with the Oslo Philharmonic and Aage Kvalbein, was awarded the Spellemann Prize in the contemporary music class for the recording of Lasse Thoresen's Illuminations, a concerto for two cellos and orchestra, which was also performed at the major contemporary music festival Présences in Paris in 2005.

Liv Opdal has had many soloist assignments both domestically and abroad, and several of the concerts have been broadcast on radio.

In addition to teaching cello and chamber music at the University of Stavanger, Liv Opdal regularly gives seminars at other institutions and summer courses.

In recent years, Liv Opdal has been involved in the Cellolyd festival in Lofoten as a performer and organizer.
